This tutorial aims to strengthen the investigation of cause-effect relationships in the Mining Software Repositories (MSR) field by learning how to run cohort studies. This aim will be achieved by means of three objectives: 1) understanding the difference between correlation and causation in MSR studies, 2) learning how cohort studies can be used in MSR and 3) applying the cohort study methodology in MSR field. The tutorial will have an important practical component.
